This is my travelling companion Mark (they call him Jesus) with a Tibetan monk named Tanteen who we met on the streets of Mysore and who spoke zero English. We invited him back to our hotel and bought him lunch. Through sign language and gestures, Tanteen was able to communicate that if he didn't get back to the monastery within a few hours, he was going to be beaten by the Lama there. He needed no English to convey the very real fear that registered in his eyes. There was no transportation running due to the strike, but we managed to find a driver willing to take Tanteen home in time. Mark took the 60km drive with Tanteen to the monastery and Buddhist university outside of Mysore (can't remember it's name) which is the largest settlement of Tibetan monk refugees in India (about 2000).
